  • Because of the growing prejudice of the U.K. underground scene that I know of as Indie Rock ,The United States failed to play fine songs such as this when they came out. A lot of very good bands didn't get recognized during the Grunge/Alternative Rock breakthrough in the early 90's.

  • Since this was on an all-covers album to raise money for Roky Ericson, I think pretty much everyone knew that when it came out.

  • I actually have a VCR tape that has this on it when they premiered it on 120 Minutes on MTV. AH,the good old days when they had good programming and actually played music!!

  • I went to college with these kids at UT in Knoxville TN & I saw The Judybats perform easily some two dozen or more times, especially as someone else here said, at the old legendary Planet Earth club, where I was an original bartender. The Judybats were performing this song back in the 1980s, one of their early songs. Who cares about some crap band from the '60s? This is a superior cover.

  • Judybats played a festival i attended back in the 90's and it was so unique i acquired all their albums. sadly, never saw them again. so great to find them here on YouTube thanks for sharing!

  • this is NOT an english band..they are from my hometown of Knoxville, TN..i used to see them all the time at PLanet Earth and the like...

  • and to think the original one from 13th floor elevators is 100000000000000 times better.

  • great cover plus it brings back a lot of student life memories....!

  • @thisismusic38 When did this come out? I didn't discover it until that benefit tape they did for Roky mentioned by fantasyworldabilene in the 90's. Underground lives in Texas, by the way. Take a little trip down to Austin. Or my hometown of Houston. Gotta love TEXAS.

  • Never knew there was a video for this. Thanks for posting!

  • @thisismusic38, I heard this song on heavy rotation on WHFS when I was in middle school. They got plenty of air play, but got wiped out along with scads of other great bands when grunge got big. There wasn't any prejudice against UK indie bands. It was just that anything but Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Nirvana and their copycats wasn't selling.

  • Please notice at the very beginning of the introduction where they are all sitting down for the camera... the really cute guy (playboy) says "it's good clean, family fun." and then the fat guy (Tubbs Talman) steals his thunder by taking the words right out of his mouth "it's good clean, family fun."

I wonder if Playboy took him (Tubbs Talman) out back afterwards and beat the living crap out of him for pulling the rug out from underneath him. This was supposed to be his big scene.
