The second half begins with the usual tough play from the DL as Aaron Humphrey gets a sack. Defenses tighten up and teams trade punts but UT's punts are weak and give NU good field position which gives them a FG, still UT is up 10-6.

A 15 yard burst by Ricky puts him over 100, a sack by Woodard, another great play by Hicks, and NU sacks Major, LB Foreman, son of Minnesota Viking old timer Chuck Foreman. Eric Crouch then rips the middle with a superb TD run making it 13-10.

UT gets the ball back and is driven back to a 3rd and 27 where Major throws and INT, hit on the release. NU pushes inside the 10 yd line but Hicks (again) and JJ Kelly collaborate on ripping the ball from Crouch with #7 McCowen with the recovery. A HUGE play as this would have put NU up 20-10 and all the momentum at home.

Ricky advances UT with a run and tries his best QB skills. As the 3rd quarter ends, Major who had been 1 of 9 in the 2nd half, throws a beauty to Bryan White who takes the sideline for 76 yards as NU had blown the coverage. Ricky tries to pound it in but NU has a great goalline stand and UT has to get a tying FG with Stockton, Bryan White with another clutch play with a difficult placement, 13-13.

NU has a lot of fight in front of the home crowd and with the FR Eric Crouch they march down the field. Jammer with a big hit on Crouch and Buckhalter with a great run. NU TE cannot come up with a certain TD catch as the pass was overthrown by about 6 inches and NU has to settle for a FG, 16-13.

This sets up the game winning UT drive. Nunez with a clutch 3rd down catch. Wane has a catch over the middle and NU sacks Major setting up a long 3rd down as hope is fading away. But Major comes through with that man again Bryan White who just barely gets inbounds for a 37 yd catch. Bryan White !! Ricky smashes his way to the 1 yard line with help from a Major qb sneak but NU holds strong. However on 3rd down, Major rolls right and finds Wane on one of the best touch passes you will ever see. 20-16 UT.
Major gets a mild concussion on the pass and watches the rest of the game from the sideline.

Still time left and NU fights hard with an Alexander run near midfield. However Hicks comes up big (again) and on 4th down Hicks (again) pressures Crouch into an incomplete pass. Walton hands off to Ricky for a brutish run to cement one of the greatest Horn road victories of all time.

  • Thank you for sharing this video. I remember watching this game with my gradfather when I was a jr in high school. With Texas going into Lincoln unranked and Nebraska ranked 7th. Out of all the Texas games i've seen, this has to be in my top 10 of all time.

  • @ryznaga We'll see what happens in Lincoln, I'm hoping for a game similar to 2006 with the lead changes, snow flurries but without the loss! Has UT ever had a Callahan effect to it's program before Brown? I'm guessing McWilliams couldn't have been too popular.
