Happy Hoofer 911 (For Candace)

Answered an add on craigslist for help with a horses feet. Met a real nice gal and a nice horse and tried to help them out all I could. There is trimming instruction on this video.

Just wondering, in a previous video you state that you find the middle (widest part) of the hoof by going from the apex of the frog, and measuring 1 inch towards the heel. in this video you said to measure 3/4 inch. Does the whole size of the hoof determine this? or is it a general rule of thumb? just looking for clarification.

@MeganSaysRawr I messed up there, it's 1 inch. It's the tip of the coffin bone that's about 3/4th inch in front of the apex of the frog. I'll have to put a note on that, thanks for noticing.

I hope everyone watching this video knows that you just cant measure how long you want the hell and go and lop it off. The sole and frog of the hoof is the deciding factor, and with tell you where everything else wants to be. Who decided that 1 1/4 inch the the golden heel length?

@cabagewhite Yeah, I hope the same thing. And yes Candace and everyone else would benefit from reading Pete Ramey's articles. Don't want to take down the heel if you are not prepared to get the toes and rest of the foot balanced with it. However there's only so much you can put in a 15 minute video.

@cabagewhite Thought you should know, I took heed to your warning and I put warning notes on both videos, that a person should not just run out and lop the heels off their horses without first learning about the whole foot etc.

i want to know who the person was that ABUSED this horse to where it got this bad. If you can not afford a horse then you can not own one. That simple. Don't let your ego get in the way of seeing the truth. Something should have been done about this a long time ago. I hope that a previous owner did this to this horse and not you because you seem very nice.

@thehappyhoof Thanks. I really enjoy your videos and you've given me the confidence to pull the shoes, and have a barefoot hoof. My horse was much sounder, and happier barefoot. Hopefully I can gain the confidence to trim his hooves myself, I'm just finding it tough to find a barefoot trimmer in my area willing to help me.
