@DrummerMatMan Ok yeah, Rush is one of their big influences, I just think that their music does sound quite a bit different. And I can see now where your going from that point of view trying to describe what their sound is, that they are heavy like Metallica and such.

@Throderodren They don't really sound anything like U2, the only thing I can thing of is some of their mainstream, pop sounding songs which they make every once in a while, like maybe I Walk Beside You.

Well actually I think Dream Theater at times sound a little by RUSH. Rush is one of their biggest influences!! When I describe Dream Theater to people who are familiar with classic rock bands from the 70s,80s, I tell them they sound like Progressive like Rush but heavy like Metallica. So Dream Theater at times DO sound similar to Metallica and Rush. But after influencing from them, they do have overall more of their own sound.

I'm sorry silvertear1, but DT doesn't sound ANYTHING like U2 or Metallica, and yes they don't sound like Rush either. Instead they have their own sound, which in my opinion I think they are the best band out there. Metallica is more thrash, U2 is more... crap. And while they are prog they don't sound anything like Rush. That comment made me angry that you would stoop some of the greatest musicians in the world to that level.

I know 2 bands closer to Rush sound,. they are TRYTAN (EEUU) and 2112(Spain).
you can listen Celestial messenger album,of Trytan,is great.... the voice very very similar to Geddy Lee.

DT doesn't sound like Rush they sound wanna be U2/Rush/Metallica.
Tiles and Amplfier are the only bands that come close to Rush and still have an identity
