Free MP3/OGG/SoundFont download: http://www.arachnosoft.com

This music, "Stalker", is the episode 1, level 1 (Hollywood Holocaust) soundtrack from Duke Nukem 3D, a game developed by 3D Realms and released on the MS-DOS PC platform by Apogee in 1996.
It's the absolute original MIDI file from the game, as composed by Lee Jackson.

The purpose of this video is to demonstrate that MIDI files can actually sound very good when played with a nice synthesizer.
Here, I used the free SynthFont SoundFont-compatible software synthesizer (http://www.synthfont.com) to reproduce a MIDI file using Arachno SoundFont, a custom General MIDI SoundFont bank I designed for my Sound Blaster Live! soundcard.
My bank features many famous sounds from the best synthesizers by Roland (D-50, Sound Canvas...), Korg (M1, X5...), Yamaha (MU, Clavinova...), Fairlight (CMI), E-MU (Emulator), Ensoniq...

The audio track has been recorded straight from SynthFont using my Arachno SoundFont bank and the MIDI file, dry, without any added effects.
Arachno SoundFont, as well as MP3 and OGG versions of this recording can be downloaded for free on my website, at http://www.arachnosoft.com

Used to think that MIDI music was ugly? Think again!
Any questions, comments or remarks will be appreciated!

===============================================================================

  • Mind if I would create a remix (if I can boost the drums' volume), this would serve as a perfect medium base! Y'wouldn't be disappointed, not at all! ;)

  • @UgyvanPlancsiznakEgy: Sorry for the late answer...

You're absolutely free to create a remix from the material available here or from my website (MP3/OGG).

Unfortunately, the custom SoundFont I've used to produce this cover is not ready for release yet. I still have to write some documentation about it (credits) before any public release...

  • Ver' good, my friend, although the drums should be louder. The listener should feel when the musician "hits" them, emphasizing the dynamics of the song. Just boost the drums' volume higher, and y'll be fine.

  • Thanks for your kind comment!

You're true, drums are usually louder on this track when played on another synth like Yamaha MU or Roland Sound Canvas SC-88.

YouTube compression doesn't really help as well :)

The track is available in MP3 and OGG formats on my website, if you're interested. Drums should sound cleaner :)
