Yes, I am back! I hope you like these new pieces. I have been writing a lot over the past several months and I will be sharing more with you soon. I hope everyone is well...I have missed you!
Here are the 2 pieces I read to you in this video:
***********************
2AM

The clock ticks two I think
But time is immortal here
And the immobile stars watch us
As we bring color to the night
Painting the silence with words
As we learn of parallel lives
These dreams we exchange are so richly fueled
With truth and wide eyed wonder
Each glimpse lasts an eternity
Simplifying time
In a date stamped memory
***************************************
SNOW

Whenever my mind is reeling with some sort of angst, I gravitate to a memory in my mind that I hold close to my heart. That is the magical thing about memories. You can visit them any time you wish. My memory is not anything so special in the eyes of the world. I mean nothing that exciting happens. Nothing happens and that is the beauty of it I suppose .
I was thirteen and I had a paper route. It was Christmas Eve and it fell on a Saturday. The Saturday paper was to be delivered by the early evening. I bundled up the newspapers and headed out with my metal cart and as I walked it began to snow. Suddenly everything was bathed in a white glow. I remember it was so quiet. There were no cars, no people, nothing, just all this white new snow coming down turning everything into a virtual winter wonderland. The only sounds were coming from my cart as it made a skinny trail up the hill behind me. I stopped half way up the hill and it was absolutely silent except for the snow. I could hear the snow fall to the ground like flower petals, each flake finally being absorbed by the white landscape. I breathed in deeply and I could feel the scratchy wet wool of my scarf. I remember standing there, still, as a sense of peace came over me. I could see the lights from the houses and it made me feel good that people were all inside, somewhere beyond the twinkling Christmas lights. It seemed I was the only soul outside that evening and the new snow was for me alone. It was my private miracle.
How many times do you get to be so at peace that you can allow yourself to listen to snow? It doesn't happen too often, at least not for me, so I have held onto that memory for years now.

  • hey rob that was interesting. was in italy early this year myself great spot. great poems too!!

  • Bloody character limitation! Anyway, The snow piece particularly touched me as I can recall a similar experience not too long ago, maybe 2 years ago. I was walking home late one night, snow all around me not a sinner on the street. I had my ipod on, and it was one of those moments like you described, a sense of oneness and spirit. Each snow flake falling like the wave of a conductors baton! Bravo Robby :)

  • Greetings Sir :) As ever a pleasure to listen to your read your pieces. Something i've missed very dearly! The first piece really painted the image you were portraying quite visually in my mind, it was a real romantic and infused moment and you captured it in words like it was some sort of small feat, truly wonderful and dream like!

  • When you began talking it seemed to me like in the beginning of an adventure book. :-) But after that I realized that this was your introduction to your pieces. :D

Your writings are so catching! ...can you ever mind writing lyrics to an original song?

    be well

    Chris

  • Robby, I just found this and another video from you that I hadn't seen buried in my subscription folder! I really must check it more often. I love listening to you talk about things just as much as I love to hear your pieces. I really love the conversational tone of the second one. I imagine snow storms are a real pain but to people like me who never get to experience them, they are a wonder. You have really captured it for me :)

  • we have missed you too Robby....so lovely to hear from you...

I was in Italy last year....I loved it...

beautiful writing dear Robby..I always feel so drawn in to your stories ..feel Im there with you ...;;0) thank you my friend..Tina

  • now the second piece sounds like an american classic. very salinger-esque (who is one of my favourites). you should write a novel using your amazing depictions of memory. your attention to detail is so wonderful and your questioning/searching of yourself and things around you is really endearing. i bet lots of people could relate to it :)

  • wow you're so talented robby! the first piece is so beautiful. that cruise sounds like a writer's paradise (lovers, waves, sea breeze, pen and paper). i've never been on a cruise before but my mind always seems to romanticize things and your piece really did that for me.

i have to continue onto another comment cause it won't let me post all the words i want to haha...

  • @robby63 We have all missed you too! I'm well - working steadily at music. So good to hear from you again. Blessings Robby!
