I made this in 1996 and it was probably the first puzzle I was truly happy with. Rotation movement is excellent and I am very pleased with the way it looks. It is definitely one of my favourites.
It was made in a similar fashion to my Icosahedron Skewb and many of my others. First the new masters were sculpted from lumps of polyester resin. Then I made moulds from remeltable rubber (Gelflex) before casting the final hollow pieces in polyester resin. Standard Rubik's Cube style stickers were used with six colours doubling up on opposite sides. Using just six colours on a puzzle like this does not make it easier since every "cubie" still has to be correctly positioned and orientated. To solve it is the equivalent to a super Skewb.
This was made long before Meffert started to sell a mass produced version.
See- http://tonyfisherpuzzles.net for photos and more information on this and all my other puzzles.
