DIY: The Flipside of Nashville

Music City is named for its love of music and as a haven for music lovers - at least those old enough to drink. What do you do when you and your band are too young to get in the bar? When you don't care about making it big, making money, and don't want to deal with sleazy promoters? You move the coffee table aside and throw a show in your living room. Under Nashville's radar thrives a tight-knit underground community of young musicians and artists who turn their homes and basements into venues and sidestep the music biz entirely. This is a very tiny glimpse into their world.

I go to house shows all the time because they are more inviting to me than a club. It feels more like a community event that is fun, unlike a bar where it's often way too loud, smokey even, and not intimate.
