Hydra is a Thomas Hill Vanguard shunting locomotive with a Rolls-Royce straight-eight uprated engine. This locomotive has stood out of use on the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway pending repairs to the transmission. The decision was taken to start it on a very cold day in February 2010 just to get the engine warm. It is normal with this shunting locomotive to have to give the engine a higher speed after first ignition.

  • @Squarerig It is normal on a engine without glowplugs. It will stall if you let it fall back to idle on the regulator while the engine/combustionchambers is cold. On the other hand, no need for overkill either :D

  • @peter280319 Yes you can see the injectorlines beneath the exhaustheader :)

  • I luv big engines.

  • @fgh456pc doubt it naturally aspirated

  • Diesel?

  • Oh, good boy! Nice start!

  • Get a load of that supercharger whine at the end.
