This is part of our Activism Project for Communication and Gender class. Our mission, to stop the sexual exploitation of women and children in Atlanta. We plan on lobbying at the state capital on February 1st, 2010 to fight against this horrendous issue facing our state's capital. Here are some facts that you might not have known about:

•Every two minutes, a child is sold as a sex slave. They will give everything they have grown to live for, love, and learn and it is all due to the sex trafficking industry.

•Without choice, a child is forced into the sex industry that will forever end their childhood.

•Children as young as 7 are victimized, manipulated, starved, drugged, and threatened into the dark realm of sex trafficking.

•Many children are forced into sex trafficking everyday and most of these children are sold by their own parents.

•Atlanta is first on the list for having the most children forced into sex trafficking.

•Each year, an estimated 800,000-900,000 children are bought, sold, or transported overseas into the sex trafficking industry.

•Many of the people that are forced into this industry are teenage girls, and others as young as 5 also fall victim to the sex trafficking industry.

•90% of runaway children fall into the commercial sex industry. One-third of those within the first 48 hours.

•Each year, an estimated 14,500 to 17,500 foreign nationals are trafficked into the United States.

•Traffickers use the airport, the transit system, and the internet to exploit 200-300 children into the sex industry every month.

•Many children that are in the sex trafficking industry are lured in through social websites such as Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter.

•Sex Trafficking is a 32 billion dollar worldwide industry.

•Sex trafficking is the second largest illegal trade behind drugs.
