One possible downside with using iron is that it inhibits algae growth, which some clams do eat. The goodside with clams are better grade seawater. Most filter feeders will collect alot of heavy metal in their gut...sort of a preemptive self sacrifice for the benefit of everything else living around it

It is not know how long it takes for a clam to reach maturity. Unlike many invertebrates, giant clams must reach a large size before they can produce gametes. Depending on species this could be anywhere from twenty to fifty years.

How long does it take for a hatchling clam to reach full maturity?

they are so pretty. clams are also yummy :) but we need to harvest properly to be able to sustain future generations with clams

I'm wondering the same thing.
I heard the shells on these things of a fully grown one can fetch $1,200. I don't know about you guys, but I think it looks better alive than as a chair in someones livingroom.
