Advertising the Atari computers compared to Commodore. It has to be early eighties.

  • This is actually a later 80s commercial from 86 or 87. The atari 65xe was just a rebadged Atari 800xl which was a rebadged Atari 800. The atari computers had better basic than the commodore but they were not as powerful.

  • Thanks for the info.

    Just when I start thinking that I should disable comments cause I'm sick of deleting spam, someone posts a coherent and relevant comment.

    Thanx again...

  • Actually, the 65XE came out at the end of 1987 (the 130XE came out earlier, in 1985). It was their attempt to get more life out of their ageing 8-bit computer line, started in 1979 with the 400 and 800.

  • Nice, thanx for the history. I wasnt even paying attention in 1979....

  • Yeah how about those killer graphics... LOL :-)

  • Actually this is wrong. The XL is NOT rebadged 800....

  • Irony: This is Jack Tramiel's Atari dissing his old company's hardware using the same hardware he used to diss.

    65XE=uber cheap repackage of 800XL.

  • Graphics might have been better on the atari but sound??? Two words SID CHIP!!!!

  • Nice try Atari, but King C64 was STILL being made in 1994!!! Atari may have had plenty of features, but there was more software etc available for C64...

  • the 65XE was my very first PC XD wow!

  • hmmm, I dont like their additude. Dissin the C64....I guess this is why ATARI was so hated by the Amiga Community.

  • Take a look at some of the demos posted here. There are people who seriously pushed the color capabilities of this thing. The demoscene never ceases to amaze me even to this day.

  • Then again, the "POKEY" as it is called wasn't really put to its full potential. There are people who are actually creating music using sounds never imagined previously on that chip. Making music that actually blows the 6581 out of the water. Do a search for "Raster Music Tracker" and have a listen at some songs made by it.
