@guitartotee I don't disagree with collar bone attacks, they can be very effective when done properly, but there are two things to consider in this situation. ONE: the action of going up and then down to hit the collare bone is slower than going straight to the face. TWO: The collar bone doesn't just snap that easily. This is a thick bone that takes a great deal of force to break. A straight right to the jaw rattles the brain and can disrupt motor function.

@DarkMagician70 i had a buddy who swore he could keep the slide from moving... He put his palm against the back of the slide and held it there ended up with a hole in his hand >.> pistols are blowback operated. the same amount of force that pushed to bullet out of the barrel pushes the slide back... however... better to lose some skin on your hand than lose your life.

Would it work next to guy like big Shaq?

Ok that is good for being in public and someone pulls a gun on you. However being in public and pulling a gun on someone you would have to be crazy.Pushing the gun in the air is good although if he may fire the gun the round goes into the air and bullets have to come down. So The best thing to do is to grab the barel of the gun twits it sidways away from you then go for a hip throw that will instantly disarm him and you have control.

This is great thanks

@iHuntAndShoot if you do it this guy's way, then your punches to his face would help him get dizzy or wanna block them, and he'd forget about the gun, if so for a moment

What if your in an office building with people above you.

@TheLemonpee i think all crooks, thugs and wanna be gansters are pretty dumb to begin with. too lazy to get out of bed, don't go to school to get an education so they try to make a living by stupidity

What if there is a crowded building behind you? The most safe direction in a case of gunfire would not be down?

free hand of the mugger
But why wouldn't you immediately go for the elbow? You have the gun now no need for the extra blows. I can assure you, hes not moving while you have a gun on him.

@iHuntAndShoot That is a lucid question. It is possible to go straight to the disarm after the re-direct, I however like the misdirection. You take his focus from you, to defending the gun, to protecting his face, back to defening the gun. Also if you knock him out he lets go. Good question though.

what if the gun is a slide (double action) pistol such as a sig p226, and the gunman reacts by pulling the trigger when you've grabbed the end of the gun and moved it up? would the slide action by the gun firing mess up your hand pretty badly? How would you then recover from that if at all possible?

@TarotDona actually, you might be surprised how easy it is to hold the slide of an auto when it fires. If you have a firm grip, it wont even move. Then it wont fire again until it is re-racked. There is a vid in my favorites that demonstrates this.
