Nothing but a headache.. and loss of time and money.

@melhpy7 Maybe they have all been trapped in nets?!!??

not all methods of shrimping have bycatch, nor turtle demise or mammal. How about the dolphins and whales which wash ashore in schools ? 20 whales beach themselves its blamed on sonar by the military or that of the whale , 1 washes ashore its the result of comm. fishing practices. Tourism on beaches or building has no effect on turtles but only comm. fishing ? What about pollution which is destroying our salt marshes and tributaries where our fish spawn ? Never mentioned !!!! Funny !!!

I comm. fish and i have seen the bycatch a trawl net can produce. FEDS help, but the bycatch is still overwhelming. Ive been using a cast net more and more yearly to harvest my shrimp but only one specie of shrimp is able to be harvested with a cast net feasibly for "greentail " shrimp are the only ones which school.

If i did i didn't mean it.
hopefully you are aware that large offshore trawlers in the north atlantic have grids that keep the by catch below 1%.

That is good for you there guys. But in Costa Rica shrimp industrial trawlers, well exactly the shrimp fishermen, refuse the use of technology to save sea turtles and reduce bycatch. They reject for example the use of the Turtle excluder device (TED) and they are actually catching and killing at least 7,000 sea turtles each year. This is the reason we are strongly demanding responsible shrimp practices in Costa Rica.
