Life is meaningless, we all crave for peace, but the very needs of life breed conflict. In order to sustain yourself you must kill. If there are no wars and everyone goes vegan, we would nontheless be forced to kill. Kill the animals and insects to protect our harvest. And if we run out of food, we'll be presented with the choice to kill others for their food or kill others that try to take away our food. There will never be enough for everyone. Ours are more important than theirs.

If everything has a purpose, so does our presence in a particular place. Every place seems to have a 'life of its own', some energy that breeds conflict for many years or place of peace and harmony...just like humans. Some have 'grown' to find the balance and some haven't. That does not mean one is better or the other is wrong...Only experience teaches us. Experience is full of meaning.
