Steve McConnell is running for the Bellevue School Board and he would love your support, but just as important as your support is for you to know where he stands on the issues and his ideas on how to improve the Bellevue School System.
Steve McConnell's priorities for Bellevue's School Board are:
(1) Fully engage our diverse community through town hall meetings, annual parent satisfaction surveys, coffee talks with school board members, focus groups, school board blog, easy-to-read school board recaps, Facebook, Twitter, and video.
(2) Increase accountability with more sharply defined goals and performance standards, and with regularly measuring progress--for both the administration and the school board. Focus on measured outcomes, including test scores (of course) but also including college acceptance rates, AP pass rate, successful entry into the workforce, and levels of satisfaction of parents and district staff.
(3) Increase openness of district operations and school board operations. Publish district-level performance against goals by the district superintendent and the school board itself.
These priorities will help maximize the excellence of our school district for all students, competing with the best schools anywhere. Our district should serve gifted students, special ed students, and every student in the middle.
As a 25-year Bellevue resident and father of both a gifted child and special needs child, Steve brings considerable empathy for students of all abilities. As an award-winning author and business owner, he values high performance and students' creative sides. Our district's budget is almost $200 million, and Steve has substantial financial management experience, bringing fiscal responsibility to the district.
Our schools are good, yet 30% of Bellevue families choose private schools over public schools. Please help Steve make our public schools the most compelling choice.
