Comedian/Host Steve Allen (1921-2000) described his transition from radio into television, working with writing team Madelyn Pugh and Bob Carroll on his prime-time radio show, The Steve Allen Show, and his first television appearance in 1949 as a wrestling announcer for ABC in Los Angeles. He fondly recalled hosting a multitude of Steve Allen Shows for television, and the classic Tonight with Steve Allen, as well as the creation and hosting of PBS' Meeting of Minds.

  • What a great great man.

  • I love Steve Allen. His show Meeting of Minds was so informative and entertaining. His book Dumbeth could be a testament to where we are today.

Steve Allen- one of a kind.... and still missed.

  • He was an all time great. Loved his TV show and all the silliness. Classy and funny guy.

  • After watching this, is there any doubt that are society is in decline?

  • This was real entertainment....not the crap that's on our TV now days.....

  • And of course, Marshall McLuhan uses the words "cool" and "hot" in even more unfamiliar ways... and almost no one knows what he's talking about!

  • schmock! schmock Steve!!!

  • Steve Allen, - one of the brightest stars to ever light-up the tube ! ... GREAT interview, btw. covers so much of his life & his thoughts. thanks for sharing this.

  • I never get tired of listening to this man speak. :)

  • I used to sneak to watch Steve Allen on TV. As a child I recognized his intelligence mixed with humor. His show was stimulating to a developing mind.

  • could this b in stereo pls ? thanx so much for posting !!

  • A supremely talented man - but a very gentle man and a humble one as well. I was very lucky to have seen him in action on TV in the 60s and beyond.
