http://vault.ncaa.com/ In one of the most memorable games in NCAA history, Lorenzo Charles converts Derreck Whittenburg's desperation shot, to win the championship. Coach Jim Valvano and the "Cardiac Kids" celebrate one of the largest upsets in tournament history. Houston's "Phi Slamma Jamma" was led by Akeem Olajuwon, who won the Most Outstanding Player in spite of the loss.

  • Coach Jimmy V finally found someone to hug. R.I.P Lorenzo Charles

  • The most exciting finals I ever watched! The "Cardiac Kids" were my pick to win the whole thing that year, but they pulled almost every game in the playoffs out by 1 or 2 pts. R.I.P. Lorenzo Charles and thanks for this memory!

  • shorty shorts.. hehehe.. but so nice game..

  • @Tockwork Incorrect. The rule that stopped the clock after a made basket came several years after the game. The rule then was that the clock kept running.

  • R.I.P Jimmy V....and Lorenzo Charles

  • DW one of only four players to be MVP of High School & Collegiate championship MVP's

  • @Tockwork Unfortunately the time still runs unless somebody called a time out until about 1991 when the NCAA changed the rule. Houston didn't have any time outs left.

  • Never, ever gets old watching that game....

  • so they shuda had 2 seconds left

  • Well Hakeem and Clyde won the NBA championship in '95 anyway :P

  • RIP Lorenzo Charles
