@mekanizmalar Thanks for the article but I rather look for guidelines intended for circuit builder, not for designer of specific components i.e. I'm looking for advise on which pump to buy, not how to design it :)

Thanks for your good comment. Here is what I found about number of pistons.
"Experience have been shown that odd number of pistons have smaller output pressure fluctuations than an even number of pistons."

That was a clear "mechanism of action" of a fixed displacement piston pump. But why are the pistons almost always odd numbers?

Is it true that if you look for a hydraulic pump with the lowest noise levels in respect to their output power the axial piston pumps are best?
