There are two sides to the wilderness debate.

This is a short clip of an interview by Eric Ness, New Mexico Farm Bureau, with Jodi Denning from the group People for Preserving Our Western Heritage.

Wilderness seems like a good idea on the surface. Most people, are very interested in being good stewards of the land. This is especially true of our ranching community, who make their living caring for the land.

But wilderness is not always in the best interest of the public, OR the land. There are many restrictions which result in a variety of serious consequences for ranchers, recreationalists, law enforcement, border patrol, water management, flood control and the public. There are many important factors to consider.

There are many ways to protect the open space and viewshed in Dona Ana County without resorting to the restrictive designation of wilderness.

Wilderness in Dona Ana County is NOT in the best interest of anyone, except perhaps those with a desire to lock the public off the land.
