In Aperture Priority mode, I set lens aperture to f/22 and hyperfocal distance to infinity against the left aperture mark on focusing ring. I did not have to focus again. The lens is AF but not on the D5000, so you must manually focus. As indicated on the focusing scale, @f/22 everything was in focus from about 7 feet to infinity. So, you can shoot video without worrying about focus at those distances of 7 feet to infinity at f/22, handheld, without a VR lens or image stabilization, and get a decent video with that lens. What you give up, though, is blurring the background. Though most videos with this camera should be shot with a tripod, this is great for spontaneous events where you can concentrate on composition and content on a moment's notice. You must shoot video in Live Mode with this camera (viewfinder only available for still photos).
