A look at common baits that can be found around the home or in a supermarket. Plus how to use them and basic knots. The ultimate guide to coarse fishing for beginners presented by expert NFA angling coach Danny Williamson.
@hxcstisti a hook that size works great for small sunfish, roach, and carp because it will successfully support smaller baits such as corn kernels, red worms, or night-crawler segments, and other maggot sized baits or smaller. there is not enough bait exposed to be gripped, and torn from the hook; instead the bait and hook will be taken into the fishes mouth like a vacuum, therefore allowing you to set the hook and catch the fish.
@Bbfishman you are correct, that is in fact too much worm for that size hook. not to say that a small fish cannot eat that worm, but if you watch the way all fish feed, especially on elongated foods, you will notice they often put 1/2 - 2/3 of the food in their mouths, then swim off with the left over hanging out of the closed jaws for a moment or two, then they take the rest of the bait. in this situation the fish would swim off with the worm, severing the worm from the hook.
@reptifreak99 i kno what salmon eggs are. I wasnt saying that the hook you used was bigger than this one, your bait is smaller and therefore fits the hooks you're using better. All thats gunna happen is the fish will pull the entire worm off the tiny ass hook that this guy is putting an entire worm on. Thats why hes dumb
