I always get Tommi , he sucks past level 11 or so but he can see trap from far away . If he cant pick or disarm I give him some Fox's cunning potions(intelligencebuff) and hes good to go .

You could also put Follow Me on hotkey button, makes it easier to manage your henchman + summons. And maybe Stand Here -command as well.
On a side note, you might wanna get Bull's Strenght. It lets you carry more stuff without slowing you down and it boosts melee damage. I'd also recommend casting Mage Armor on Grimmy instead, I see little point in raising your AC if you're in backline (altho it's not a bad idea if there's enemy archers around). Oh, and get Stoneskin ASAP when you get to lvl 7.
