Your comment is really astute. Fats above all had the best-sounding touch of all the stride players; nobody else comes close. I wish I had hands like that. As George Shearing once commented, "Shaking hands with Fats Waller was like grabbing a bunch of bananas."

This gal does a darn good job here, though.

  • It sounds great. Clean and on rhythm. The only difference between this and say someone like a Eubie or Fats or Oscar is the large hand seems to give a little better tone. Robert Estren talks about the difference between striking a chord from above vs letting the hand settle and then doing key press. Striking from above gives a slightly harsher tone. This is what I see with say Fats Waller or other great striders. They get full tone but it still sounds like they are caressing the keys.

  • So exciting. Its now one of my favorites. I wish I play as well as you :)

  • Heard this on Eubie Blake's double album years ago and it remained my ragtime favorite. But honestly, you play it better than Eubie... Standing Applause!!

  • At about 1:45 and a few other places, the rhythm sounds a bit like You've Got To Be Modernistic. Oh, and excellent performance xD

  • This is turning into one of my favourites! It's fast and has a lefty that really bumps up the melody and change of speed really makes things live.

  • So exciting and vibrant. I like the ending which was a surprise to me.

  • I like this part when it becomes little slower. 2:37-2:42

  • Can't help but smile listening to this joyful music played with such panache - fantastic!

  • faaaan-taaaaas-tic Can't wait til Avon Park in January Don
