The Russians liked to match a tiny 14 year old girl with a large older man. Often it worked quite well...for a while. Marina CHERKASOVA won the 1980 World title with Sergei(j) SCHACHRAI, but lengthened to an ungainly height and couldn't seem to deliver on skating skills as she grew older. Irina VOROBIEVA and Igor LISOVSKI were quite dynamic, and later won at the World title, and disappeared from competitive skating.
