Donated for this channel with thanks. by our local dusty second hand book store, Bookend in Morpeth, there is still something wonderful about dusty books and old records with the smell of coffee and you get all this from this quaint old shop! So if you are ever in Morpeth do call in and say hi. All welcome.
This a popular song of the period, released on the Capitol label and sung by Tenessee Ernie with his Western Band. CL13271
Great voice. None better; but I'm not fond of the arrangement here which is probably why the Frankie Laine version was a bigger hit. However, Ernie got his "revenge" and then some in the mid 50's when his version of 16 Tons, a monster hit, outsold Frankie's version which was a hit in Britain.

There have been a few as good but never a voice better than TEFs. Where are the voices like him, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, and all the other greats these days? Are they gone or do they just no longer get the opportunity to perform?

Not heard this song in many years, i can remember growing up, i spent many hours at my Aunties, she had a 78 player and lots of records.
