There was something about a Muntz TV.... It had about half the parts in it of any other TV.  The story I heard is that Muntz took an RCA set, and removed as many parts as he could and have the set still negligibly work...

...and who could forget his newspaper, billboard and TV advertising, with him wearing his "Napoleon" hat and long johns {"I wanna GIVE 'em away, but Mrs. Muntz won't let me...SHE'S CRAZY!!"}. Muntz died in 1987, but I'm quite sure he'd do well in selling ANY new video technology that came along, because he KNEW how to buy ad time, and used it to its full extent. This famous ad, created by legendary "experimental" animator Oscar Fischinger, aired hundreds of times on local stations around 1952.

Awesome animation. "Madman" Earl Muntz was a real huckster in his day, selling TV sets factory direct, as well as a sports car "the Muntz Jet", as well as selling car tape decks (he sold 4-track cartridges under the "Muntz Stereo-Pak" brand.) I haven't heard anything about Muntz since the 1970's. I wonder how Earl Muntz would do business in today's hi-def LCD/plasma/DVD/Blu-Ray world. Probably the same as in the 1950's and 1960's.
