Well I'm sorry to hear that, and I hope you find better protection for your birds.
I saw a wildlife documentary showing the female mandarin duck lay her eggs high up in a tree. And the chicks jumped off when they were 1 day old! So maybe they don't lay eggs on the ground and therefore won't breed if a tree is not available? Just guessing.

No we didnt have an avairy, we had a big pen for them with there own boxes next to a very big pond but still managed to get through the fences, only 2 survived cos they managed to fly up over the fence into the field. and im not really sure actually i doubt unless you hatch them from eggs yourself.

Ouch! Wasnt it possible to create an aviary for them?
Also are they easy to tame like common pigeons??

ow wow we bred these in franc on a rare bird farm they cost alot we had very fancy and expensive electric fences and wires to prevent foxes just to wakup and find a minx had got in taken the heads off every single one and left them there :(
