On Wednesday March 3rd at 8PM, WHYY-TV's On Canvas features jazz guitarist Lionel Loueke!
Originally from the small West African nation of Benin, Louekes first gig was an accident: He was at a club while the performing bandwas taking a break. Since then, hes gone on to play with some of jazzs greatest musicians, including Terence Blanchard, Herbie Hancock and Cassandra Wilson. On his latest album, Mwaliko, Loueke lays new ground as he explores the possibilities of his craft. Combining the improvisational natures of jazz and African music styles, Lionel Loueke plays with a trio at The Painted Bride Art Center in the Old City, Philadelphia. **Watch complete episodes of On Canvas here: http://video.whyy.org/program/1100712935
