General Motors (GM) has announced plans are underway for a $359 million plant that will build four-cylinder engines for the Chevy Volt electric car and other models. The Flint, MI plant will provide 300 jobs, and is expected to produce more than 800 engines a day. Available video includes an edited package on the new plant, b-roll of the Chevy Volt and the announcement of the plant, and soundbites from GM CEO Rick Wagoner, MI Governor Jennifer Granholm and GM Chief Engineer Chris Meagher. • They are probably so involved in trying to sell the idea of the Volt, that they only see the immediate income from that car. Its like a corporate get rich quick scheme.

  • This is an embarassment and another example of GM's inability to think long term. GM has a soon to be vacant 8 year old plant in Flint that used to manufacture the trailblazer engine. I spoke to an insider that said the existing building would work just fine for the volt plant. Keep up the communism Granholm, you have Obama to support you now.

  • Where is GM going to get the money to build anything? They're going broke and might have to file for bankruptcy.
