General Motors (GM) has announced plans are underway for a $359 million plant that will build four-cylinder engines for the Chevy Volt electric car and other models. The Flint, MI plant will provide 300 jobs, and is expected to produce more than 800 engines a day. Available video includes an edited package on the new plant, b-roll of the Chevy Volt and the announcement of the plant, and soundbites from GM CEO Rick Wagoner, MI Governor Jennifer Granholm and GM Chief Engineer Chris Meagher. They are probably so involved in trying to sell the idea of the Volt, that they only see the immediate income from that car. Its like a corporate get rich quick scheme.

This is an embarassment and another example of GM's inability to think long term. GM has a soon to be vacant 8 year old plant in Flint that used to manufacture the trailblazer engine. I spoke to an insider that said the existing building would work just fine for the volt plant. Keep up the communism Granholm, you have Obama to support you now.

Where is GM going to get the money to build anything? They're going broke and might have to file for bankruptcy.
