"Asperges Me" and images from Mt. Angel Abbey, Oregon. For all my friends in Contemplative Musicianship. May you know joy.
Inner and outer landscapes reflect one another until they are eventually unified into a seamless whole. Experience then becomes an immediate and richly resonating vocabulary of layered symbol and meaning.
The Asperges is a Gregorian chant (antipon) which can be found in the Liber Usualis. The text is from Psalm 51: Purge me with hyssop, O Lord, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be. Amen.
"Asperges me, Domine, hyssopo, et mundabor: lavabis me, et super nivem de albabor. Miserere mei, Deus, secundum magnam misericordiam tuam. Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto. Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper, et in saecula saeculorum. Amen."
The music was beautiful, and the pictures, too, but the pictures changed too fast, creating tenseness in this watcher which I do not think was intended. Slow down the photos?

This chant and your pure, soaring voice evokes the "Perfect Joy" sought by St. Francis. For me there is no higher consciousness. I loved this. Thank you.

Ed, your gift of voice and musicianship is only paled by your presence of spirit and holy reverence. May you be blessed as richly as you are blessing others with the gifts of your music and your soul.
