OK, I always confuse the names of Camp Shields (By Kadena) and Camp Schwab (Nowhere near Kadena). Please insert "Schwab" every time I say "Shields"...

I love driving on Okinawa. One of the things I REALLY miss doing....

  • I was stationed at Schwab in 1980-1981; everything looks so different but the foliage & greenery looks so much the same; it's really a strange feeling. I've been living on mainland japan for 7 years now married to a 日本人 and I look forward to returning to Okinawa someday - I have to find out if I can get a base pass to Hansen and Schwab.....

  • do you miss driving on Okinawa?Hey thats exactly what im doing

  • Ah ha, well then...enjoy!

  • I was talking about ME kidnapping a marine or two...and me they would have to be 1) alive...2) male...and 3) blindfolded and gagged so they couldn't identify me later and charge me with all the nasty things I'd do to them.

  • Well, for me the Marine would have to be 1. Red Headed, 2. Female, and 3. REALLY good at jungle survival, as I certainly would have to live out in the jungle as my wife would kill me upon my return from this "Adventure"...Hope you get a chance to take that ride one day. REALLY beautiful things to see.

  • Yeah think of the fun....kidnap a marine or two each way....hehehe

  • I meant to point out those weekend "Drivers" are on motorcycles!

  • Oh yes, there seems to be many people who drive that route on the weekends. Take the 58 up the west side of the island, looking at tropical ocean..grab a break and lunch at Hedo point...then take the 70 through the mountains and Jungle on the east side, coming from the direction we were heading. FANTASTIC place for weekend drives...

  • damn that looks like a nice motorcycle ride ...

  • I was stationed on Okinawa from 1967 unyo 1969. Under USA control. We drove on the right side of road then.

I was at the 137th Ord. Co. Camp Henoko, back then it was under US ARMY contro..
