Congressman Nadler denounces Republican efforts to gut federal regulations on nuclear safety standards, choosing instead to put public safety, community health, and the environment at risk. Nadler offered an amendment which would preserve the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's ability to strengthen nuclear safety regulations in the face of corner-cutting being pursued by the Republican majority. With millions of Americans living within the potential fallout zones of nuclear plants, and with the lessons from Japan's Fukushima reactor still fresh in our minds, now is not the time to loosen regulations on the entire nuclear industry.
