Of course the world is getting better.

65 years ago: institutionalised racism, 6 million people murdered because of their race, laws against homosexuality, rampant sexism and religious bigotry, conformity, nuclear war fears, etc.

Things aren't perfect, but I'd sure as hell prefer living now, compared to living 50 years ago. (Particularly if I wasn't a white, middle class male living in an affluent first world nation!)

the reason why violent crime is decreasing is because Most people at least in this country have become to lazy and unhealthy to be violent. crimes regarding internet pornography is increasing rapidly. so i guess we know how they are being lazy don't we?. :-)
