Although I agree with your sentiment on knowing about all religions, there are 4200+ religions in the world. However, it is vital in foreign and domestic policy to not misrepresent or offend adherents of major religions in the countries that you are dealing with. These "experts" are largely inaccurate as they want to cash in on action, no matter how much it harms US-Muslim relations.
