US: Farmworkers Face Sexual Abuse

Women and girls who work on farms in the United States face serious risk of sexual abuse and harassment. Many are unauthorized immigrants and fear of deportation keeps them from reporting abuses. In the current debate over the Violence Against Women Act, the US Congress is considering making it even harder for immigrant women to seek protection from violence and abuse. Human Rights Watch urges Congress to ensure that all victims of gender-based violence in the United States, including immigrant farmworkers, can seek justice.

No matter your immigration status, if you are a victim of a crime, you deserve protection.

if you are troubled by the video, PLEASE call your Congressperson and ask them to pass the Violence Against Women Act 2012 Re-Authorization WITH the protections for immigrant women. Republicans are trying to remove protections for immigrants, Native Americans, and people abused by same-sex partners. We need these protections. No one should be abandoned by the law just because she is an immigrant, a Native American, or gay.

I'm actually arguing with an Austrian Economists who's saying illegal immigrants have it just as good as citizens.

As if having fewer rights and no ability to fight back against abuse without fear of being deported is just as good. As if having to work two jobs for less than minimum wage is better living.
