The vibrant sea of plaid kilts and the unwavering sounds of the bagpipe was a call to once again gather for the Scottish Highland Games. The Caledonian Club of San Francisco held their 143rd annual event, drawing an estimated fifty-thousand spectators to the Alameda County Fairgrounds over the Labor Day Weekend. San Francisco IAM talked to Scottish countrymen, descendants and enthusiasts alike, went to the frontlines of the infamous caber toss, engaged in the buzzing and frolicking, and indulged in the abundance of fine whiskey, meat pies, and even Haggis. And if you were like the many that happened to be Scottish, you were bound to reunite with one or more of the countless clans celebrating their lineage.

  • Great report! Thanks for sharing.

  • Makes me anxious for the summer games season. The San Fran games are almost as old as the Glengarry Ontario ones.

  • This video was well done! Made me so excited to go again this year. The Scots in the video that were actually born in Scotland seemed excited to share their heritage and to encourage those with Scottish roots. I didn't feel that they were dismissive of American's with Scottish roots.

  • To the obviously bitter person who calls himself gaelicscots: It's unfortunate that you responded to Gaelic in English. It just further shows how very little you do know and how insignificant your thoughts on this subject ,are to me. You do not speak for the vast majority of Scots , you speak for one sad , bitter individual . Latha math amadain!

  • @donnajeanapril17 You are not Scottish in any way. And you should know that the vast majority of Scots do not recognize Americans with Scottish ancestors, as Scots themselves. You are not you are American. you have nothing in common culturally with the Scots.

  • Fantastic representation of the games!!

To the negative commenter: The Scottish diaspora are no less Scottish than the ones born and raised in Scotland. There are more of us in the U.S. than in the mother land. WE are are the decendants of the Scots who had to seek refuge from ignorance and discrimination in their own land. Carson a tha thu ìosal? Alba agus a'chloinne de Albannach gu brath! Cait a bheil do Ghàidhlig , "gaelicscots"? Suas sinn, suas i! Cha bi sinn ìosal!

  • Very well done report! Thanks for sharing!

  • listen to them say we and us when refering to scotland, as though they are actually scottish
