Hours after the 2008 West Coast Ragtime Festival concluded, the musicians are still going strong, here on an early Scott Joplin tune, "Peacherine Rag".

On the studio piano (right) are Martin Spitznagel and Frederick Hodges. On the grand are Adam Swanson and Tom Brier, who are joined momentarily by Morten Gunnar Larsen. On percussion are Andrew Barrett, Max Keenlyside, Vincent Johnson, and Tom Warner. Andrew also joins in on kazoo for the final strain.

The West Coast Ragtime Festival is held every November in Sacamento, California. http://www.westcoastragtime.com

Tom and Adam can be heard in this video discussing different rhythms. This is because Peacherine Rag has become a plaything in recent years, where musicians play it with different rhythmic styles. Here are two examples:

  • @bigfriendlyben Oh yes, there's quite a lot of us! Most of us will be at the West Coast Ragtime Festival this weekend in Sacramento.

  • this seems to make so much fun!!! fantastic

maybe i visit you when i´m in america than we can play together xD

  • @MrRagtimefan I have a series of videos that I named "Ragtime Party" which you may enjoy also. Just search "Ragtime Party" in the YouTube search box. Lots of fun stuff. Maybe not always the most musically proficient but just a bunch of friends hanging out and having a great time!

  • Adam Swanson & Tom Brier are on the grand piano and Frederick Hodges & Martin Sptznagel are on the upright ?? Right or wrong. I think I can tell the difference bewteen an upright and a grand and Irecognise Adam Swanson by his youthful looks and Tom by his bald patch:-)))

  • Oh whoops! I'll fix that. I wrote the description while uploading the video and must have had my memory reversed! Thanks.
