Off-trail hiking in the Beartooth high-country provides ample opportunity to view 10,000+ ft. lakes and sweeping panoramas of the northern Wyoming mountain ranges. Having the extra viewing distance is good for being able to spot the relatively large population of grizzly bears that inhabit the area.
@yauguru The best way is to get a good gps and a topo map. Topos will alow you to plan the best route and show you how steep the terrain is as well as obsticles such as cliffs etc. Also, if you are new to off trail hiking-------make sure you use the tracking setting on the gps. This way you wont get lost or cilffed out etc. You can simply follow the line exactly back the way you came.
