Well here we are, 100th video. I decided I needed something special for #100. This couldnt have been better. I dedicate this rare video to all of my viewers, subcribers, and friends. Your views, comments, etc. is greatly appreciated. I also dedicate this video to all of my family members who had the chance to see this beautiful locomotive. Thank You guys for supporting me in my video production.

Lima Locomotive Works GS-4 4-8-4 #4449 "Daylight" is a steam locomotive which operated on the former Southern Pacific Lines. Daylight comes from the name of the train that this locomotive pulled in the 1940's. 4449 offically retired in October of 1957 and was put on display in Portland Oregon where it repeatedly got vandalized and slowly started to deteriorate.

In 1974, 4449 was one of the many locomotives possibly selected to pull the American Freedom Train. This lead to the restoration and storage of this locomotive which went on to pull the AFT in 1975-1976.

In its bicentennial excursion, it visited all 48 states pulling its red, white, and blue train. Afterwards, it returned to Portland to be stored under shelter, away from vandals and the elements. Since then, 4449 has pulled numerous excursions and made apperances at several locations mostly in the Western United States.

In March of 2009, it was announced that 4449 would attend Trainfestival 2009 in Owosso, Michigan from July 23-26. Since July 3rd, 4449 has made almost a 2500 cross country trip, visiting almost 9 different states. In Wisconsin, 4449 traveled from Minneapolis to Chicago on the BNSF ex. BN ex.ex. CBQ. This marks the first time 4449 has visited Wisconsin since pulling the AFT in 1975. This also marks the first time it has traveled in Wisconsin on the route of the CBQ Zephyrs.

The last time a Steam traveled on the BNSF was in 2002 when Milwaukee Road 261 traveled to Chicago and back, making several stops along the way.

  • Nice Channel!

  • Listen here papoocanada, the diesel is for dynamic breaking assist and to provide electrical power to the coaches. The 4449 is more then capable of handling that train on it's own, but federal law mandates that a diesel locomotive be part of the consist. And you don't have to wonder about who's pushing or pulling. The diesel can be heard in idle mode as it passes by in any number of videos of this and other trips. All the power is right up front in that red black and orange legend.

  • at least my town is famous for something

  • .....with a fucking diesel behind.....makes you wonder who is pulling or pushing whom ??

  • This was at Cassville Wisconsin on its way to Chicago

  • 10-4 & what a sight, but where was this runby?
