UPDATE: The ladies have been released! Check out the segment with Laura's sister LIsa LIng that aired on Oprah in Sept 09: http://www.oprah.com/media/20090827-tows-lisa-ling-facebook

6/7/09 LAURA AND EUNA HAVE BEEN SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS OF HARD LABOR.... http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fgw-north-korea-journalists8...

THIS IS SO SO SO SO SO SAD.

While attending the vigil, I couldn't help but document the emotional night on my flip camera and talk with Lisa Ling, Laura's sister and best friend. I want to use the footage in a "welcome home" montage for the two ladies, but until that happens it's imperative that more people learn about what is happening and take an active role in supporting these amazing women ...

Since March 17 these two American journalists have been held captive by North Korea after allegedly entering the country illegally while researching a Current TV news story about North Korean refugees in China.

Their trial has now started, Thursday 6/4/09, and the two face charges of illegal entry and "hostile acts" -- this comes during a time when tensions among America and North Korea continue to mount. Against international will North Korea launched a long range rocket in April and completed an underground nuclear test just last week.

There is great fear that North Korea may be using these two young American women as political bargaining chips.

  • Hey people? You don't want to be captured by North Koreans? DONT FUCKING CROSS THEIR BORDER ILLEGALLY. I have been to North Korea myself, and I am American. I went in the legal way, through a tour organized by Samsung, through the DMZ. The tour was not long after shut down. I don't know what else to say, but you can go, but you shouldn't just walk right in. I'll bet those girls wanted to see how far they could get. F it. Not my problem. Welcome back home ladies, don't do that again.

  • What's so arrogant about reporting the truth? There are thousands of North Korean refugees who risk their lives to flee through China every year. That number is also rising. And it's also no lie that North Korea has concentration camps. I'm just glad that these women are back home and safe. Do you think it would be better if the women were still stuck in North korea and their families at home, worried sick about them?

  • They aren't respected journalists..lol..I didn't even know who the fuck they were until they broke the law and crossed the NK border and wanted America to get them out. Fuck these two bumbling fame seeking morons.

  • If these reporters were 2 white American men, I'm sure that people would be a lot more supportive because whites are Americans, and Asians are not. People always find numerous excuses to EXCLUDE these women from the term AMERICA by saying that they're liberals, or they're on their own because they made their own mistake. Haven't we witnessed many white journalist and soldiers who are arrested in some countries due to crossing the border illegally and eventually get the support they need?

  • I OWN A NEWSPAPER, YOU IDIOT! Comparing William Hearst and Al Gore is laughable. The industry has changed over the last century, or haven't you heard? I stand by my first comment and I will until the day these ladies are released. Anyone that doesn't support their release has no business making nasty comments here.

  • Al Gore simple owns Current. What in hell are you talking about???????? William Randolph Hearst owned lots of newspapers and he hired and fired people and told them what to report on. Dragged America into the Spanish American war. Al Gore and these two nuts are doing the same thing trying to drag countries int a war.

Multo1 is right about these two twinkie bananas. They thought laws do not apply to them

Plus have you ever worked in a news paper, apparently not??

  • Thanks multo1 all good points. That whitemansincubo is a real nut.

  • Why do you have to be such an ass? We need to support these women and their families & bring them home as soon as possible. It's not even known if they crossed the border. They are respected journalists multo, not biased. Your comments are racist and unfounded. Furthermore, Al Gore has taken action, & if you knew anything about journalism, you'd know that he simply owns Current. He didn't "assign" them to this story as so many accuse. Can't we just support these women & help to bring them home?

  • Why Al Gore not do something. Why did he send them out tod do such a thing.

Of course the Koreans think they are spies because of Al Gore

  • laura very arrogent about the countries she reports, its all from a santa monica rich asian chick perspective, kinda poetic justice to find herself at the mercy of that which she wished to use as step ladder to riches prizes and awards
