Summer, use a canoe - winter, hike. Never hike Arkansas in the summer unless you are a glutton for punishment, in that area you get swarms of horseflies (more often than not) that will devour you alive & no spray will keep them away.
Personally I hate the seed ticks & chiggers more but the shift change of horseflies to mosquitoes in the evening & back in the mornings gets old after a few days.
