There is a renewed interest in growing plants for producing ethanol and other biofuels, but the crops we grow may not be well suited to that purpose. A prairie grass called Switchgrass, bred years ago to help solve environmental problems with the infamous Dust Bowl might be part of the answer to our biomass needs. Plant breeders such as Mike Casler and Ken Vogel are hard at work developing the right green grass to turn into green gas.
