I love this, but its missing the verse about Jenny writing her memoirs!
"Jenny made her mind up at 51
She would write her memoirs before she was done
On the very day her book was published,
History relates,
There were wives who shot their husbands
In some 33 states."
Boo, this should be the definitive version too.

@chantdonchant Personally, I enjoyed Miss Andrews' because I thought she really showed Gertrude's thought process during the performance. Julie always said, while she was making the movie, "I'm not trying to be Gertrude, I'm not trying to act like her or sound like her, I'm just trying to tell her story." She showed Gertrude as she realizes how to perform the number, and not many actresses could convey that, but I caught on right away and everyone else who saw it did too.

I like Gertrude's rendition, but it's only fitting that Mr. Weill's picture be here...after all he wrote the song! Lotte Lenya (on the label) was his wife, too.

Beautiful version of this song. I agree with glawsny ... Kurt is a fine-looking man but better to have some pictures of Gertie. By the way, her voice got better as she got older, though I loved her younger voice too.

She belts this song and blew Danny Kaye out of the water...

Cool!! So nice to hear Gertrude... so clear and effective as opposed to later overblown renditions (especially Miss Andrews!)

This song proves that you can write and sing about the sordid subjects of life without being vulgar or profane. Excellent performance by Gertrude Lawrence.
