http://www.opamerica.com CHOMPY the BEETLE Vintage all Tin Litho Wind-up by Marx
Circa 1968
Presenting a large vintage tin litho wind-up toy from the Marx Company circa 1960's called Chompy the Beetle. Chompy is one of several tin win-up toys Marx made from the same metal tooling. These included at least two varieties of Moon Creatures and at least one called Insect.
When wound, Chompy the Beetle moves forward while (you guessed it), opening and closing its mouth in a chomping motion. There is a strange, intermittent sound created when the toy is in motion. The eyes have a loose center portion which moves around inside the eye while the mouth opens and closes making for a crazy looking beetle.
The condition of the toy is excellent with some very minor scratches and scuff or rub marks. The rubber antennae are perfect. The wind-up motor works exactly as it should and has a built in key.
If you are a serious collector of windup, tin litho and/or battery operated toys; this will be an excellent addition to your collection. Made by the Louis Marx Co. in Japan.
Measures 5" inches tall, 6" with anteneas.
