READ THIS FIRST!

I've been meaning to do this for a while, so, here it is! And for those saying I copied azuritereaction/deepbluvibes/sskitzzo, so what? I've been actually wanting to do something like this since December, just never got around to doing it.

This is a video of me playing my real drums along with Dead On Arrival by Fall Out Boy from Rock Band. I know it's not perfect (I'm off a little bit for a second in the beginning, and then again going into the bridge, etc.), but it's my first attempt at something like this, and I only did 2 takes.

I'm a little disappointed with the sound quality, but I could only work with what I had, which was a little Canon camcorder. The microphone is tiny, and didn't pick up everything -- most noticeably some bass drum hits, especially in quick succession.

You'll see me looking down and to the left most of the time. The reason is I had my laptop setup with the note chart (captured from a Gamebridge). You'll notice sometimes I don't hit the right drum/cymbal -- most noticeably at the beginning of the guitar solo where I was hitting the low tom instead of the ride... oh well. There were no drums playing on the track when I was listening in the headphones because the chart I captured was from practice mode, and when you're not playing whatever instrument you're practicing, it doesn't play in the chart, so I had to do it all from memory.

My drumset I'm using in this video consists of:

Drums:
DW Collector's Series in Broken Glass FinishPly
18"x22" bass drum
8"x10" tom
12"x14" tom
5½"x14" Mapex Pro M snare (from my old kit)

Cymbals -- all Zildjian:
13" A Custom Mastersound Hi-Hats
20" K Custom Medium Ride
16" A Medium-Thin Crash
17" A Medium-Thin Crash
18" A Custom Crash
8" A Custom Splash (which I don't hit at all in this video)

The hardware is mixed, but the bass pedal is a DW 50002AD3 single pedal.

I'll do my best to answer any reasonable questions that I see.

A big thanks to my friend Rob for creating the intro and outro screen for me!

Enjoy!

  • Are you fucking kidding me? He's looking at his laptop the whole song except for 2 second bits here and there. No legit drummer on YouTube uses RB to make their drum covers. They listen to the song on their iPod, and play along to it. If you think it's impossible to play a drum cover without looking at the notes from RB, you have no idea what the hell you're talking about.

  • hey, u missed all the notes on the game!!! =(..lol.

  • Usually the red+yellow that most people think are snare+high tom are just flams.

  • @malcolmgetscrazy its supposed to be hi hat no snare at first

    THUS INSTIGATING FAIL!

  • Damnit, it's just not as fun when you can't build up a note streak. :P

Real drums are a lot more fun to bash though :D

I'm sure the RB chart constitutes no more that simple sheet music (except each pad can represent different parts of the kit), which a hell of a lot of musicians use to help them play stuff, so there shouldn't be any problem with him reading off of that here. :)

Also it had to be said, that was definitely a GS performance. :P

  • @Rockyrules21 how?

  • wow exploding pimp u say shit and u prbibly cant even do it with looking at the rb drum slide and at least he has the balls and to put this video on youtube so shut the fuck up i would like to see u do this.

  • at 2:35 he fails HARD

  • Well at least he ballsy enough to actually play it and post it, i dont see any of the fucktards on here making videos as a response to this. until I see that then I still think everyone complaining about the guy playin to rock band charts, are all retarded.

  • Nice your good man.
