More about the case of Spaska Mitrova

Spaska Mitrova, 23, a native of Gevgelija in Eastern Macedonia, who holds Bulgarian citizenship, was sentenced to 3 months in jail even though she recently had a baby, because she did not allow her former husband to stay at her parents' home in order to visit their child after the divorce. The reasons why Mitrova requested a divorce had to do with her former husband constantly abusing her physically, and insulting her because of her national identity. A 32 000 Euro fine was imposed on her and her child was taken away despite the fact that it is still a suckling. Mitrova complained of being convicted over a non-announced decision by the Social Issues Center.

The young Bulgarian is also a member of the Radko Association - a political organization of citizens of the Republic of Macedonia with a Bulgarian national consciousness. According to her family and other members of the organisation she was arrested due to her pro Bulgarian activity.

Yet from the start she has been subjected to pressure so that the child would not be raised in the spirit of Bulgarian tradition. She has told me many times that this is so and that the social service has used the procedure to such an end Radko president Vladimir Pankov stated.

She has been mistreated by the Social Center, she has been threatened by the Social Center. They want her to give up her Bulgarian citizenship. The same thing happened in court said Zivko Cavdarov, a relative of Spaska Mitrovas.

Mitrova has a degree from the Southwest University in Bulgaria's Blagoevgrad but was fired from her job in a Macedonian high school with the explanation that Macedonia did not recognize Bulgarian university diplomas.
