PA mobile home park faces displacement by fracking industry

37 families at Riverdale Mobile Home Park are being displaced from their homes in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania, to make way for a water extraction facility for Marcellus Shale natural gas drilling, or "fracking" operations. The facility will be operated by Aqua PVR, a joint venture of Aqua America and Penn Virginia Resources.

What a fucking joke. You want to get mad at someone? Get mad at the previous land owner that sold the land. And another thing, the people of Riverdale LEASED the land. They have no say whatsoever. PERIOD!

gas well workers arn't to blame, you should be blaming your own people of P.A. there the reason rent has trippled, hotels are way to expensive its all greed you blame gas well workers but its your own kind taking advantage they gave you plenty of time to get out plus again it's the land owner who sold it wasnt like a gas company already had the land and said go live on the street.,

Rent goes up because of alot of reasons - not just gas companies. Taxes have gone up alot plus bad tenants that cause damage make it bad for the next ones cause landlords can't afford to trust anyone because of one bad experience. Don't blame the gas companies cause they have brought alot of jobs (good paying jobs) to the area for people who are willing to work hard. Problem is people try harder to get welfare or disability than they do a job. It's time to be responsible for yourselves.

Perhaps you missed the point- these people have no housing option in their hometown. The rents have sky-rocketed because the people hired to do the fracking are paid more than other workers in the area. The investment they made in their homes is gone. Casino corporate capitalism leaves wreckage in its wake, e.g. the rust belt, Detroit, the long term unemployed, college grads with huge debt and no jobs, etc.

Neither side has opened up Alaska like they should have and as a result we have to shatter the bedrock under our communities and contaminate aquifers. What about Iraq oil? They say we went for oil, where is it? Bush didn't give it to us and neither has Obammy. Washington DC and Fed owned State governors no longer work for the people, they work AGAINST the people. It's time for a change on both sides of the isle.
