The title comes from an onomatopoeia of the written theme of this composition, which goes "Gu-gan, Gu-gan, Da-pa-to-ton, Gu-gan, Da-pa-to-ton". You can notice that each solo returns to the theme right after the drummer plays the answering phrase "Da-pa-to-ton". Therefore, other members have to listen to the drums very carefully!

@PerditionFilmworks That means the beginning sound of the piano, composer said that the piano sounds "gugan-gugan", the drums sounds "da-pa-toton"...(^^;

@PerditionFilmworks Mr. Yamashita, who is the pianist and composer of this tune wrote about that in his essay in Japanese. It's famous among Japanese jazz fan. (^-^)v
