@eaglewillfly Id just keep the 6. the cool thing about driving in an amc is not how fast you go.riding in an amc is like riding in a time machine. takes you back to the 70's and puts a smile on your face.sounds corny but amc's remind me of when i was a kid growing up in kenosha.a javalin with a six would take me back. a 401 would just do it quicker.! good luck with the car

sounds so ballsy i got a 71 hornet with a 360 and 727 have yet to get to play with it all the way though cause we are doing a restoration on it but soon as its done ill show u guys a real burn out :D

@eaglewillfly probably a 360 because its likely easier to find and maybe is better than the 401 with a 3 speed. I don't know a whole lot about amc though.

i have a 73 amx javelin with a 360 , i love it . it's got plenty of power for me

didn't sound like 400hp.. A 401 delivers about 330hp,and that will probably make 270hp at the rear tires.as you said Sarcasticscum..

Haha, 400 HP? Maybe to the crank!! That thing probably only makes about 270 hp at the rear wheels friend.. I would know, my uncle owns one..

i have a 71 javelin SST, what the hell do i do with it? i'll never get rid of it. it has the stock 232 strait 6 and a 3 speed manual tranny. should i go with the 360, 401, or something else? any advice is well appreciated.

DRACANSE: the amx became a trim option on the javelin after 1970. Its still an AMX.
